Barnet Schools Chess Association (BSCA) team selection policy

General Info:

The BSCA enters teams into the English Primary Schools Chess Association (EPSCA) championships.

EPSCA. holds three annual championships for member associations - Under 11, Under 9 and Girls Under 11. The Under 11 Championship is for teams of 20, whilst the Under 9 and Girls Under 11 are for teams of 12. There are also 4 extra reserves in each team. The Under 11 and Under 9 Championships have two stages: heats, commonly known as zones, followed by the final. The Girls Under 11 is just a final. All these are run as jamborees. Player age determined as at age on 31/8/2011

Although the association is called BSCA it covers the following London boroughs:

Barnet
Camden
Enfield
Haringey
Harrow

It may also cover additional areas depending on EPSCA’s significant ties rule. Our association competes against much geographically larger associations such as Kent or Devon. Traditionally we do very well, last year we were the National Girls Champions. We also won the grand prix which measures the overall performance of the three teams.

Selection Criteria:

In order to get selected for the BSCA teams we look at results from as many places as possible. We strongly advise that you play in the tournaments shown below to give yourself the best chance possible of getting noticed. Competition for places is always extremely tough.

We will examine in depth the cross tables of the following events:

Barnet Knights chess tournament 25th September 2011
Barnet and Finchley November 13th 2011
BSCA (Jan date TBC)
London Junior Chess Championships finals (17-18 Dec, 28-30 Dec)

We will also look at any other results that we can get access to. If you feel that your child merits a place but are worried that they will not get noticed then you are free to submit any additional information that you think may support your case. This must be received no later than Jan 31st 2012.

Saturday 17th March 2012 Under 11 Inter-Association Championships Zones
Saturday 24th March 2012 Girls' Under 11 Championships Final
Saturday 28th April 2012 Under 9 Inter-Association Championships Final
Saturday 12th May 2012 Under 11 Inter-Association Championships Final

We also arrange our own training and friendly matches as well
